In the middle of limited game time, Khune promotes “patience.”

Khune participated in the MTN8 quarter-final against Mamelodi Sundowns for Chiefs, but his minimal game time for the majority of the season has raised doubts about his future at Amakhosi.

According to Soccer Laduma, the 34-year-old Khune, who was given a two-year agreement with an option to extend last season, could return to the club after retirement.

Khune took to social media to share a short statement, which looked to suggest that despite falling down the pecking order in terms of playing time, he was not losing faith.

“Hard at work, patience!” he stated.

More lately, interim coach Arthur Zwane has made it obvious that the stalwart should only “be patient,” as his playing days are far from finished.

He really wants to play,” said Zwane last week.

“He is pushing himself at training. It is just a matter of selection. Brandon (Petersen) has been doing well, Bruce (Bvuma) and (Daniel) Akpeyi have been doing well. The opportunity will arise again and surely he will get his fair share (of appearances).

“We still believe in him, he has that quality, the experience, and him being in the dressing room motivates the other players.

“He is part of the team whether he is playing or not. He is a positive person and is looking forward to his turn, should it come any time soon. He is a 24 hour professional.”

Chiefs are currently fourth on the DStv Premiership log

Meanwhile, Zwane has also spoken about the way forward for the club, which included making a reference to former Sundowns superstar coach Pitso Mosimane.

“When you look at the way things are right now, you would maybe say that it will take a while but I can assure you that we are getting closer… Yes, if you look at the results – I will make an example with [former Downs] coach Pitso [Mosimane].

“When he was at Sundowns, several times he was close to the sack but the president believed in him and look at where Sundowns is. Even now that he is no longer there, it is almost two years since he left, but there is continuity.

“There is a pecking order in terms of players who are coming in at the different age groups and all that. And when they bring in players, you can see why they are doing that.

“That’s what we are trying to do right now. Not that we are copying Sundowns – I mean Kaizer Chiefs has done that several times in the past – it’s just that right now we haven’t been getting things right for some reason.”
