Brijesh Merja, minister of the Gujarat Panchayat, told The Times of India that more than sixty persons were killed when a 100-year-old suspension bridge in Gujarat, India collapsed.
The Guardian reported that hundreds of people plummeted into the Machchhu River after the collapse of the bridge on Sunday. The Guardian reports that more than 400 individuals were on the bridge when it fell.
According to The Guardian, a local television news station aired a footage of the bridge fall that showed hundreds of people clinging to cables. Twitter videos depicted individuals hanging to the bridge and climbing its wires to reach safety.

According to The Times of India, the fire brigade department in Rajkot dispatched six boats, two ambulances, and two “rescue vans” to the bridge.
The BBC said that the 230-meter-long bridge, which was constructed during British administration of India in the 19th century, had reopened following repairs.
