Fresh searches are currently being conducted in Portugal as part of the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
Police divers began their operations on Tuesday at the Barragem do Arade reservoir, situated approximately 30 miles away from Praia da Luz, the location where Madeleine went missing in 2007.
On the reservoir banks, tents have been set up, serving as bases for officers from Portugal, Germany, and the UK who were observed conducting morning briefings, according to the BBC.
Coordinated Efforts by Portuguese, German, and British Authorities
Portuguese police have confirmed their coordination with German authorities and the presence of British officers in conducting searches in the Algarve region.
This collaborative effort was initiated at the request of the German police.
Although a statement from the prosecutor’s office in Braunschweig, Germany, acknowledged the ongoing search, it did not disclose the specific reasons behind it.
Investigators Act on Tips, Details Remain Confidential
Christian Wolters, a prosecutor from Braunschweig, stated during a press conference that investigators are acting based on “certain tips.”
However, no further information regarding the nature of these tips was provided.
The search operation is being conducted in accordance with these leads, as authorities continue their efforts to uncover new evidence in the case of Madeleine McCann’s disappearance.
