Investigative journalist David Hundeyin has recently made claims suggesting that Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate and President-elect, is pushing for a public holiday on May 26 in order to potentially delay a Supreme Court ruling on his disqualification.
Hundeyin shared these allegations in a series of tweets, sparking controversy and speculation.
Earlier reports from Naija News indicated that the Supreme Court was scheduled to rule on the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) regarding the disqualification of Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima, on May 26, 2023.
Hundeyin alleges that Tinubu’s proposed public holiday is a strategic move to gain additional time and postpone the ruling on his eligibility to participate in the upcoming elections.
The journalist accuses Tinubu of attempting to manipulate the legal process to his advantage, implying that he intends to exploit the public holiday to influence the judicial proceedings and potentially secure a favorable outcome in his disqualification case.
In his tweet, Hundeyin wrote, “Information reaching me now from an insider is that @officialABAT is trying to lean on @MBuhari to declare a public holiday on Friday 26 May, which is the date the supreme court is supposed to deliver the judgment that could disqualify him.
He has also tasked Lagos State governor @jidesanwoolu and his money launderer-in-chief Gilbert Chagoury to raise a total of N100bn with which to approach the supreme court justices.”
At the time of reporting, neither the President-elect nor his media team has responded to these allegations.
