Is Cyril Ramaphosa in risk of losing his chance at a second term?

For the past four and a half years, President Ramaphosa has pushed for “unity” inside the ANC. But it appears that some party members may have heard him incorrectly. Later on in the year, Cyril might have to deal with the possibility of a Top Six MUTINY.

According to the Bureau of Economic Research’s analysts (BER).

Their weekly overview has covered a number of important subjects.

However, news from the weekend’s ANC KZN conference has sparked their curiosity.

The new governor of the province is Siboniso Duma. He will eventually take over for Sihle Zikalala.

This was a significant victory for the party’s pro-Zuma wing. By definition, they are opposed to Ramaphosa.

This is a significant challenge for the current president.

The RET forces achieved their objectives in KZN, and despite the ANC leader’s attendance at the conference, he was met with a cool reception.

This may signal worse things to come as Ramaphosa and his team prepare for a difficult journey to the National Electives.

The president “may face a mutiny” from the closest of allies

The opposition to Cyril receiving a second term has now become more steadfast, as BER pointed out on Monday.

He is receiving criticism from all sides, including former presidents who are heaping it on. Additionally, members of the “Top Sixers” may organise a coup against Ramaphosa, according to predictions.

“Siboniso Duma is associated with the party’s anti-Ramaphosa faction.

In light of recent criticism from former president Thabo Mbeki and unanswered concerns surrounding farmgate, this could provide some pushback to Cyril Ramaphosa’s campaign for a second term as ANC president.

“At the moment, the expectation is that Ramaphosa will win reelection at the party’s elective conference in December. The difficulties, though, seem to be becoming worse.

The ANC’s Top Six may also “act against the president’s objective” to purge the party and the government from within.
