There is no respite for the scheming Mets.
After acquiring Carlos Correa in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, the Mets announced the trade of catcher James McCann to the Orioles for a player to be named later. The Mets will pay 75 percent of the remaining $24 million and two years on McCann’s deal, according to Jon Heyman of The Post.
McCann, 32, had two dismal seasons with the Mets after signing a $40.6 million, four-year contract in December of 2020. In 182 games with the Mets, his batting average was.220 with an OPS of.610. However, his playing time was reduced by three trips to the disabled list due to back spasms, a broken hamate, and an oblique strain.
Last Monday, the Mets signaled their intention to release McCann by signing catcher Omar Narvaez to a one-year, $8 million contract with a $7 million player option for 2024. The Mets now have four catchers on contract, with McCann, Tomas Nido, and Francisco Alvarez joining Tomas Nido and Francisco Alvarez.
