Jerry Stackhouse, the coach of Vanderbilt, was detained by security following a heated ejection

Following his dismissal from Wednesday’s game against VCU, Vanderbilt head coach Jerry Stackhouse was detained by members of his coaching staff and a police officer.

In the second half, when Vanderbilt’s Liam Robbins was penalized for a technical foul, tensions reached a boiling point. Stackhouse, dissatisfied with the ruling, screamed at the refs and got two technical fouls, resulting in his immediate removal from the game.

Videos of the event show an enraged Stackhouse storming at the refs before being led to the locker room. Fox News reports that Stackhouse allegedly yelled “f–k you” during the heated moments.

Robbins received the technical foul originally after a dunk, which he celebrated by tapping his head. The dunk brought Vanderbilt within three points of VCU at the moment, resulting in a defeat of 70-65.

This is Stackhouse’s fourth season as Vanderbilt’s head coach, having been hired before to the 2019-20 season. Before transitioning to coaching, Stackhouse, 48, had a great NBA career that featured two All-Star selections.

Last year, Stackhouse led Vanderbilt to its first-ever winning season with a 19-17 record. The current record of the Commodores is 3-4, while Stackhouse’s career record in Nashville is 42-58.

Jerry Stackhouse will step down as coach of Vanderbilt in December 2021.

Stackhouse is attempting to return the squad to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2017, when they were eliminated in the first round by Northwestern.

The next game for Vanderbilt comes Saturday at home against Wofford, with the Commodores looking to climb back to.500. Uncertain if Stackhouse will face more discipline for his outburst.
