Jetstar stuck in Japan given “muesli bars and blankets” instead of hotel accommodations

Jetstar has angered passengers whose flight from Japan to Australia was delayed for more than 24 hours.

Passengers stranded in Kansai International Airport in Osaka are pictured with the blankets they were given at 4am while waiting for a Jetstar flight delayed by more than 21 hours
The flight was due to depart Osaka’s Kansai International Airport at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, but heavy snowfall caused a delay.

One traveler who spent $2,500 for a round-trip ticket to Sydney said they were handed a blanket and a muesli bar at 4 a.m. instead of being escorted to a hotel for the chilly night.

Around Kansai International Airport in Osaka, passengers were given blankets at 4:00 a.m. while waiting for a Jetstar flight that was more than 21 hours late.

More than 200 flights were canceled at the airport, and Jetstar wasn’t the only airline affected by the weather incident.

“My flight from Japan to Australia was delayed from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. the next day.” They offered us blankets and muesli bars in lieu of hotels,’ the traveller wrote on Reddit, adding, “you get what you pay for.”

The flight was supposed to depart Osaka for Cairns at 6:15 p.m. local time, however it was again rescheduled.

The Jetstar flight has been delayed till tomorrow at 10 a.m.

Among the more than 600 responses to the initial ad was one from a person who was also awaiting the same flight.

The passenger wrote, “Hey, I’m literally waiting for the exact same flight at Kansai lol.”

“To add insult to injury, the airport gave us the blankets, not Jetstar.”

These blankets were literally distributed around 4:00 a.m., and no one was informed of the flight delays. They stated that no announcements or anything else would be made. The Jetstar flight was scheduled to leave to 9pm on Tuesday and and then rescheduled several times for departure slots that came and went (pictured)

A spokeswoman for Jetstar told Daily Mail Australia that the aircraft was delayed due to the frigid temperatures in Osaka, which is 400 kilometers south-west of the Japanese capital, Tokyo.

They explained, “Due to heavy snowfall, the bridge connecting Osaka’s mainland to Kansai International Airport was closed overnight, preventing our crew from accessing the airport.”

This substantially delayed our trip from Osaka to Cairns.

Unfortunately, the bridge closure prevented passengers already at the airport from leaving, preventing them from accessing city hotels.

We knew it would have been a difficult night for our customers, so we provided them with food, water, and blankets for comfort.

The representative continued, “We do everything possible to avoid delays, but severe weather such as this is beyond our control.”
