According to reports, Vince McMahon has been seen backstage at WWE’s “Monday Night Raw” event at TD Garden on Monday evening. This marks McMahon’s first known appearance at a WWE television taping since his retirement in July 2021, following a sexual harassment scandal.
The chairman of WWE’s board of directors, McMahon’s official return to the company was in January 2022 as an executive, leading the company’s pursuit of a potential sale with their media rights deal set to expire in 2024.
McMahon, who is in Boston with John Cena, is reportedly seeking to sell WWE for $9 billion.
The Washington Post reported that WWE’s board was investigating hush money payments made to multiple women who alleged sexual misconduct by McMahon between 2006-22.
One of the women, a former wrestler, had accused McMahon of coercing her into oral sex. The investigation uncovered $14.5 million in unrecorded expenses.
Stephanie McMahon, Vince’s daughter and co-CEO of the company, has since left her role, and Nick Khan is currently the lone CEO.
While there have been rumors that McMahon pushed through the idea for a Brock Lesnar vs. Omos match at WrestleMania, Khan said in a January appearance on the “Bill Simmons Podcast” that he didn’t foresee McMahon returning to WWE TV anytime soon, but that could change “in a few months.”
