Kevin Durant did not intend for his response to Aaron Judge’s return to the Yankees to be so icy.
Wednesday, following the Nets’ victory against the Hornets, Durant was asked about Judge’s nine-year, $360 million contract. He responded, “I’m a Nationals fan. I could not care less about Aaron Judge.”
Durant, who grew up in the Washington D.C. region, took to Twitter later that night to clear the air after viewing a postgame video of himself raving about Judge.
Welcome back to the city 99, Durant tweeted.
The NBA champion faced criticism on Twitter from supporters who think he should have been more considerate toward a New York-based great athlete.
However, according to Durant, everything is a joke.
On October 18, 2022 in New York, Yankees slugger Aaron Judge smashes a home run against the Cleveland Guardians during the second inning of Game 5 of the ALDS at Yankee Stadium.
Wednesday, Jon Heyman of The Post confirmed the news of Judge’s new contract, which could keep the reigning AL MVP in The Bronx for the remainder of his career.
Before the start of last season, Judge turned down a seven-year, $213.5 million contract extension offer from the Yankees.
