The State’s Fifth Witness: Chicco Twala’s Presence at the Hospital Where Senzo Meyiwa was Taken

In the ongoing murder trial of former Bafana Bafana captain, Senzo Meyiwa, the State’s fifth witness, Zandie Khumalo, testified in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria.

She revealed that veteran music producer Sello ‘Chicco’ Twala was among the first individuals to arrive at Botshelong Hospital, where Senzo Meyiwa was rushed to after being shot.

The Tragic Shooting Incident at Kelly Khumalo’s Home

Senzo Meyiwa was fatally shot on October 26, 2014, at the residence of his girlfriend and singer, Kelly Khumalo, in Vosloorus, Gauteng.

The incident was reported as an alleged botched robbery.

Present at the scene were Meyiwa’s close friends Mthokozisi Thwala, Tumelo Madlala, and Longwe Twala, as well as Kelly Khumalo, her mother Ntombi Gladness Khumalo, her sister Zandie Khumalo, and her two children, Christian and Thingo.

Chicco Twala’s Presence at the Hospital

During her testimony on May 19, Zandie Khumalo shared how she urgently sought help from neighbors after the shooting occurred and how they swiftly transported Meyiwa to Botshelong Hospital.

Khumalo stated that Chicco Twala was one of the first people she saw at the hospital shortly after being informed of Senzo’s passing.

Although she was unsure of how Twala ended up at Botshelong Hospital, she recalled that he broke down and sat on the floor upon learning that Senzo had passed away.

Tumelo Madlala’s Testimony on Chicco Twala

Another State witness, Tumelo Madlala, had previously testified that Chicco Twala had offered Kelly an overseas holiday just days after Meyiwa’s shooting.

Madlala informed the court that after returning from the hospital, they spent a few nights at Mulberton, where Meyiwa lived with Kelly.

During their stay, Chicco Twala visited them and spoke with Kelly, asking if she would like to go on a holiday abroad.
