The Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) is set to award 500 certificates to winners of the Queen Consort’s Coronation Champions Awards, with both the King and his wife’s signatures appearing on each one.
This marks the first time the couple has jointly signed an official document during their reign.
The awards are part of the official Coronation celebrations, sponsored by the Daily Mail.
Winners will receive a specially designed pin, based on the official Coronation emblem, as well as tickets to either the Coronation Concert or a garden party.
The RVS is encouraging charities and organisations, including the NHS, to nominate their most dedicated volunteers aged 14 and over for the awards.
The initiative seeks to celebrate the countless millions who have made significant contributions to their communities across the country.
The winners will be selected by a team of experts following an intensive judging process.
The awards will be given in eight diverse categories such as mental health, the environment, and culture.
Author and national treasure Jilly Cooper CBE applauded the awards, praising the Queen Consort for her leadership and humour.
Sam Ryder, a pop star and official Coronation Champions Award Ambassador, said the music industry’s volunteers should be celebrated, while Amanda Pritchard, CEO of the NHS, emphasized the enormous contributions that volunteers of all ages and backgrounds make.
The article also features a case study of Sarah-Jane Umfreville, a working mother of two who opened her home to a refugee family during the Ukraine crisis.
She subsequently set up a support group in her community of Minehead, Somerset, responsible for over 50 people.
Mrs Umfreville, who is a financial services case checker, takes care of visa and grant applications, emergency housing requests, and monthly community meals, among other things.
She has even had to arrange counselling for families grieving for loved ones who have died fighting the Russian invasion.
Mrs Umfreville is grateful for the nomination and feels that Their Majesties are using the Coronation to thank other people.
