Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) for the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has strongly criticized the recent wave of attacks on various communities in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Reports from Naija News revealed that Solomon Marren, a member of the House of Representatives, disclosed that over 200 people have been killed in the local council within the past three days.
Expressing his sorrow through a statement on his verified Twitter account, Obi expressed deep sadness upon learning about the killings, particularly involving women and children in the area.
He emphasized that the continuous incidents of violence, kidnapping, maiming, and terrorism in the North Central state must be condemned by all Nigerians.
As a former Governor of Anambra, Obi urged the security agencies and the government to address the alarming descent into anarchy.
He appealed to the security agencies to intensify their efforts in combating the pervasive insecurity, warning against a future where the entire nation becomes uninhabitable.
Obi emphasized the sacredness of human lives and the need for every Nigerian to be protected from senseless deaths.
He called for a more proactive approach in tackling the escalating insecurity to prevent further deterioration.
Additionally, he highlighted the significance of building Nigeria’s economy and providing productive engagement opportunities for the youth, as a means to bridge ethnic and religious divisions and ultimately reduce insecurity.
In conclusion, Peter Obi expressed his deep concern for the victims, including the deceased, injured, and displaced individuals, while extending his condolences to the affected families and the people of Plateau State.
He reiterated his commitment to praying for a better Nigeria and called on everyone to rise to the challenge of building a new Nigeria, where safety and prosperity are accessible to all.
