The suspect informed police that he began stabbing strangers after he believed a group of showgirls were laughing at him.
He stated that he was searching for further groups of people to stab in order to “take out his rage.”

According to a police report, the man suspected of killing two people and injuring six others in a stabbing spree on the Las Vegas strip on Thursday stated that he was motivated to violence after a group of ladies dressed as showgirls refused to take a photo with him.

Yoni Barrios, 32, was arrested after the attack and told police that he attacked strangers with a knife to “get out his fury.” According to a report obtained by Insider from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Officers Department, he also informed officials that he hoped responding police would shoot him.

Thursday around 11:40 a.m. local time, Barrios allegedly attacked eight people on the sidewalk outside the Wynn Las Vegas hotel, according to authorities. Brent Allan Hallet, age 47, and Maris Mareen DiGiovanni, age 30, died as a result of their injuries.

As of Thursday, three of the remaining casualties were in critical condition, according to officials.

Barrios informed officers that he came from California to Las Vegas the day before the attack with the intention of staying with a friend. According to the police report, Barrios’ friend warned him that he couldn’t stay there when he arrived, forcing him to pack his belongings and head to the famous Las Vegas strip.

Barrios stated that he went to the mall to inquire for a trip back to California and then to the Wynn to inquire about a potential employment. He informed officers that he asked a hotel worker to notify ICE so that he might be deported to Guatemala, according to the police report. Barrios also attempted to sell his collection of blades at the Wynn, according to investigators.

When he exited the hotel, he saw a group of women dressed as showgirls and requested a photo with them. Barrios stated that he informed the women that he was a chef and withdrew one of his knives for the shot.

According to police interviews with witnesses and victims, Barrios was enraged by the women’s refusal to comply with his bizarre request. He reported to authorities that he believed the women were laughing at him and making fun of his clothing.

Barrios stated that he began running and searching for further groups of people to stab in order to “release his rage.”
