The adult son of the doomsday prepper suspected of murdering her other two children, Colby Ryan, expressed concern that his estranged mother may tarnish the reputation of his whole family.
They are facing trial on claims that they murdered their ex-spouses and small children. Chad Daybell and Vallow Daybell had founded a spiritual cult.
Ryan asserts that he is doing all in his power to pass on memories of his late brothers to his little daughter in a Netflix documentary series that focuses on the couple’s peculiar views and the web of murder investigations they are embroiled in.
In the series finale, Ryan expresses his greatest concern: “My biggest worry is that my mom’s tale will become our family’s narrative.” She won’t define anything else, says the speaker.
A three-part series called “Sins of Our Mother” will begin streaming on Netflix on September 14.
Several people who were formerly involved in Vallow Daybell’s end-of-the-world views, including her mother, son, and daughter-in-law, speak out about the case.
The series, according to the director, Skye Borgman, is meant to shed light on Vallow’s past before the alleged crimes and explain “how this snowball began rolling down the hill.”
It was a lot of information when this news initially broke, she told Insider. “We were able to connect the links when Arizona [police] provided a lot of their material.”
In 2020, the disappearance of J.J. Vallow and Tylee Ryan gripped the nation as it was discovered that Vallow and Daybell, who had just been married, were on vacation in Hawaii while authorities were looking for the children.
J.J. Vallow, 7, and his older sister Tylee, 17, were last seen by their grandmother on November 25, 2020, and she phoned the police to express her concern since she hadn’t seen them in some time.
The woman, Kay Woodcock, entered an Amazon account that belonged to her son, Lori Vallow’s late husband, who had been shot and died a few months before, in order to learn where Lori Vallow was residing.
When police arrived at the Rexburg, Idaho, house, they discovered Chad Daybell and Lori Vallow. According to prior Insider reporting, they told authorities a number of falsehoods about where the children were.
The pair had left when police arrived the next day with a search warrant.
When the couple was discovered vacationing in Hawaii without the kids two months later, authorities started connecting them to a number of other strange deaths and missing people cases.
Since then, Lori Vallow has been accused of murdering her ex-husband Charles Vallow on July 11, 2019.
According to a police report given to Insider by Sgt. Jason McClimans, Chandler Police in Arizona responded to the shooting of Vallow’s estranged husband, Charles, at her residence on that particular day. At the time, Charles Vallow’s brother, Alex Cox, told authorities he shot Charles Vallow in self-defense.
Police, however, accused self-styled prophet Vallow of plotting the murder with Cox after further probing the case and persuading him that Charles Vallow was under the influence of a demon.
After Charles passed away, Vallow and Cox relocated to Rexburg, Idaho, where Vallow later wed Chad Daybell, a doomsday author she had first met at a “Preparing a People” event.
A month after Daybell’s wife Tammy was discovered dead, the couple were married. He has subsequently been charged with her murder.
Never even human
On Daybell’s Idaho ranch, the remains of J.J. and Tylee were discovered in June 2020. The pair is also accused of killing the victims.
On September 9, 2019, the police think he stayed there for more than two hours. Daybell texted his then-wife Tammy that he had shot “a raccoon” in the backyard and buried it in their “pet graveyard” about 15 minutes after Cox left the house.
Ryan remarked in the series, “It’s not even human to take your own two children that you’re meant to love and care for.”
According to court records for a separate case involving Vallow’s niece, people close to Vallow informed investigators that she thought her two children were “possessed and had turned into zombies.”
Since his mother’s imprisonment, Colby Ryan has come out often, claiming that she has been lying to him for a very long time, including when she said that his stepfather, Charles Vallow, had died of a heart attack even though she knew he had been shot.
In addition, he expressed disbelief at her alleged role in the abduction of her two younger children and claimed he thought she would have died for them.
Ryan was detained on September 3 on suspicion of sexual abuse and domestic violence.
The trial for the children’s deaths against Vallow and Daybell is slated to begin in January 2023.
