A man was attacked with a “paving slab” near a primary school in Dukinfield, Greater Manchester, in a brutal incident that was caught on CCTV on April 16.
In the video, two men are seen standing near a pavement next to a black car while one of them holds a paving slab over his head.
The victim, who is not shown on the footage, walks over to the man holding the slab, who appears to be threatening him while holding the concrete slab over his head.
After the victim leans over to listen to him, the attacker strikes him with the slab, knocking him unconscious.
Neighbours reported hearing screaming and shouting and found a man bleeding from the head and a loose concrete slab nearby.
The Greater Manchester Police were alerted and officers set up a blue forensics tent at the scene.
A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, and the victim was taken to the hospital with a serious head injury.
One neighbour expressed concerns about the safety of the area, saying that it is not safe to live in and that police are called out frequently.
They added that they had installed cameras because the ones on the street do not work anymore, and that the police are stretched thin.
A spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Police confirmed that an investigation into attempted murder has been launched and that the victim’s injuries are serious but not life-threatening.
The incident is a disturbing example of the increasing levels of violence in public spaces.
Such attacks are concerning, and authorities must take appropriate measures to ensure public safety.
