After the Solicitor General, Alex Chalk QC MP, challenged his earlier sentence to the Court of Appeal as overly lenient, a man who orchestrated the sexual abuse of children in the Philippines will serve further time in jail.
Mark Page, now 63, participated in online communication with child prostitutes in the Philippines between August 2016 and April 2019, and traveled to the Philippines to sexually abuse the children in October 2016 and March 2019. Page used a webcam to communicate with victims aged 12 to 13.
Page was found guilty of four counts of planning the commission of a child sex offense and sentenced to 12 years in jail on March 10 at Teesside Crown Court.
Under the Unduly Lenient Sentence method, the Solicitor General, Alex Chalk QC MP, referred Page’s sentence to the Court of Appeal.
On June 10, the Court of Appeal decided that his previous sentence was too mild and raised it to 18 years in jail.
The Solicitor General, Alex Chalk QC MP, remarked after the hearing:
Mark Page took advantage of the Philippines’ poverty and deprivation of young, vulnerable children for his own sexual pleasure. I applaud the decision to raise the term in order to appropriately represent the seriousness of these acts.
