An mediocre golfer was invited to the world’s most prestigious golf event.
Recently, a man named Scott Stallings reported receiving an official invitation to The Masters that was plainly intended for the PGA Tour professional with the same name. The man reached out to Stallings, the world’s 54th-ranked golfer, and explained how this might have potentially occurred.
“Hello Scott,” wrote the man. “My name is also Scott Stallings, and I hail from Georgia. My wife is also named Jennifer! … The Masters sent me a FedEx today inviting me to participate in the Masters Tournament from April 6-9, 2023. I am certain that this is NOT for me. I enjoy playing, but wow! “[Far] below your level.”
Stallings’ best finish at Augusta was a tie for 27th place in 2012. The 37-year-old Stallings has not participated in the tournament since 2014, but he qualified this year by making the field for The Tour Championship at the end of the previous season.
Stallings posted on Twitter that he had been checking his mailbox five times a day until receiving a random direct message yesterday.
Now that the invitation will undoubtedly find its way to him, he will be the one participating in the April competition.
The man wrote, “It’s a pretty beautiful bundle with everything needed to attend.” “I believe there is some confusion due to our names, the names of our wives, and our geographical area.”
