McDonald’s to test a chicken Big Mac in the U.S.

McDonald’s reveals that the Big Mac will replace its beef patty with a chicken patty later this month in Florida, following a successful trial in the United Kingdom.

Later this month, Chicago-based McDonald’s will test a chicken Big Mac for a limited time at Miami-area restaurants, as first reported by the Washington Post.

“We’re always searching for new ways for our fans to enjoy the standard menu items they know and love,” the fast-food restaurant said in a statement to CBS MoneyWatch on Friday.

In the company’s earnings call for the second quarter, McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski referred to chicken as a “focus area.”

According to the company’s U.S. website, McDonald’s has already tested the chicken Big Mac in the United Kingdom, where it was available until March 15. Two crispy tempura chicken patties, sauce, pickles, shredded lettuce, and American cheese on a sesame seed bun received “rave reviews” from British consumers, according to the firm.

McDonald’s also suggests that the new sandwich may become available outside of Florida in the future.

McDonald’s stated in an email, “While not everything we test makes it into our U.S. menus, we will use this opportunity to gather input from customers and restaurant staff as we examine potential to offer more great options in the future.”
