To improve their outfield depth, the Mets acquired players from the Yankees.
Jon Heyman of The Post confirmed that Tim Locastro signed a minor-league contract with the Mets. The pact also includes an invitation to spring training, according to FanNation, who broke the news first.
After acquiring him from the Diamondbacks in July 2021, the 30-year-old Locastro has spent the past season and a half with the Yankees, with a waiver claim by Boston in the offseason in between. When he was promoted from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, he quickly established himself as a go-to pinch runner. In 47 MLB games with the Yankees, Locastro posted a batting average of.188 and an OPS of.607. In addition to contributing 12 hits, three home runs, and six RBIs, he stole eight bases.
Locastro was selected by the Blue Jays in the 13th round of the 2013 MLB Draft, and he debuted with the Dodgers four years later. In 2018, he was initially traded to the Yankees, but just two months later, the Yankees traded him to the Diamondbacks. There, he played all three outfield positions in 91 games during the 2019 season, a career high.
Locastro began his career with 29 successful stolen base attempts, a streak that lasted until April 2021 and set a record in Major League Baseball. In his career, he has stolen 39 items and been caught five times.

The Mets have made several high-profile signings this summer, but Locastro’s name does not generate as much noise as the others. However, it still offers outfield depth should they require it. Since their season ended and free agency began, the Mets have signed a number of players, including Justin Verlander, Brandon Nimmo, Edwin Diaz, Jose Quintana, and Kodai Senga, among others. The Mets, who finished second in the NL East with a 101-61 record, have also signed Justin Verlander, Edwin Diaz, Jose Quintana, and Kodai Senga.
Despite a failed physical, they remain the most likely landing location for Carlos Correa, according to Heyman.
