After their recently launched taco shop was shut down for a building code violation, the father of a Mexican mayor threatened an inspector with a kitchen knife.
Daniel Tabe held Mexico City agent José Reyes in a chokehold and placed a knife on his neck on Tuesday in front of his Don Eraki taco shop, as seen on cellphone video.
“I’ll put it in you, you son of a b****. I’m going to stab you,’ Tabe said in Spanish to a terrified Reyes before making a motion with the large silverware.
A second inspector then tells Tabe to calm down, to which he responds, “Calm down, f*** that.” Let’s go, you sons of scumbags.’

The mayor of the Mexico City neighborhood of Miguel Hidalgo, Mauricio Tabe, did not approve of his father’s behavior, but he labeled the restaurant’s closure a political maneuver.
Tabe and his family established the fifth location of their taco restaurant, Don Eraki, on August 18.
His son Mauricio Tabe is the mayor of Escandón, a neighborhood in Miguel Hidalgo, Mexico City, where the firm is located.
However, the authorities shut it down because the restaurant was constructed on property that was only permitted for 38 residential units.
According to El Pais, local resident Leiticia Magallanes had previously filed a complaint with the municipal against the illegal construction of the restaurant, which was placed adjacent to a grocery and boxing gym.
Moments after receiving a notice to suspend operations at his taco shop in Escandón, a neighborhood in the municipality of Miguel Hidalgo, Daniel Tabe grabs Mexico City building inspector José Reyes by the neck.
Even though Daniel Tabe was not arrested, José Reyes filed a police report regarding the event.
Following the incident, Daniel Tabe apologized to Reyes via social media for his odd behavior.
“I deeply regret my behavior today. It was never my intention to cause harm,’ he explained. I was quite angry when my business was shut down.
Reyes filed a police report even though Tabe was not arrested at the time of the incident.
Mayor Mauricio Tabe released a video statement saying his father’s behavior was unacceptable, but that the restaurant closure a political ploy led by the ruling left-wing National Regeneration Movement party.
“They lied that he operates an illegal taco company and that I am involved,” he stated. They utilize the institutions to legitimize their lies. Their desperation is limitless.
According to public records cited by the Mexican newspaper La Jornada, the mayor, his parents, his brother, and another relative with the same surname each own a 20 percent ownership in the Don Eraki franchise.
