Minister of higher education acknowledges the sector’s readiness

According to Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation Blade Nzimande, the Post-School Education and Training (PSET) sector is well-prepared to welcome new students at all of its institutions.

“I must indicate that the matric pass rates for each province will be a useful planning tool for the post-school education and training sector for the allocation of additional resources, particularly for our technical vocational education and training sector and our community colleges,” said Nzimande.

The minister has instructed all students to contact their respective institutions, and those who have filed for financial aid to contact the National Financial Aid Scheme in order to finalize their applications.

Nzimande praised the matric class of 2022 for achieving a national pass rate of 80.1% despite the tremendous hurdles created by the Covid-19 epidemic and loadshedding.

On Tuesday, the minister is set to hold a press conference to discuss the PSET’s preparation for the 2023 academic year.
