After reportedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend 17 times and concealing her corpse in his closet, a former MMA fighter and kickboxer has been charged with murder.
Irene Torres, 24, was allegedly stabbed outside the Tennessee house she lived with her parents on January 29 by Dwayne Herelle Jr., 28.
Investigators said that the day before, the two had a contentious fight, and Herelle planned to get even by waiting for Torres to come home from her job at the bar where they both worked.
Herelle is accused of repeatedly stabbing Torres before stuffing her dead body into the trunk of his vehicle and driving to his Bellevue apartment. There, he reportedly put her body into a storage container before concealing it in his closet.
Detectives claim that he afterwards dumped Torres’ blood-stained clothing and handbag in a close-by garbage.
On February 15, Metro Nashville Police Department Detective Derry Baltimore revealed the judge and the defense home security video of the assault in a jam-packed Tennessee courtroom.
Several of the hearing’s participants were coworkers of both the defendant and the victim, and some of them sobbed openly as they listened to Baltimore describe the attack.
Baltimore said that when an altercation broke up, “he started stabbing her and after stabbing her he threw her in the trunk of his vehicle.”
Torres’ corpse had defensive wounds, according to Baltimore, who was present for the autopsy.
Baltimore claimed, “I was informed when I was standing there with the doctor that she was stabbed in excess of 17 times.”
Torres’ parents reviewed their security camera video after they saw she hadn’t come home after her shift because it looked to show their daughter being carried out of frame by a guy they assumed to be Herelle.
The two had broken up a month earlier, and Torres’ father went to the man’s residence to confront him because he thought Herelle was involved.
Prior to apparently admitting to the murder, Herelle allegedly informed the victim that his daughter was staying at a hotel, according to police.
Reyna Douglas, the elder sister of Torres, said that Herelle planned her assault on the deceased on a GoFundMe website created to cover burial expenses.
Irene’s ex-boyfriend, Dwayne, was hiding and watching for her to arrive home from work in the early hours of January 29, 2023. Irene’s ex-boyfriend attacked her when she got home by sneaking up behind her.
She was brutally dragged and stabbed in front of her parents’ house.
Irene’s dead corpse was subsequently taken by Dwayne and put in a plastic container inside his closet after being driven across the county, according to Douglas, who also noted that their relationship was violent.
Irene had been subjected to months of mental and physical abuse while dating Dwayne.
She bravely chose to flee on December 29, 2022, when Dwayne was at work, and she arrived to her parents’ house in the middle of the night, afraid and worn out.
Despite being tortured, mistreated, and living in dread, Irene always had a grin on her face and a compliment to offer, according to those who had the good fortune to get to know her. “Her kindness will never be forgotten,” Douglas wrote in honor to her sister.
Herelle will appear before a Grand Jury at a later, undetermined date after the matter was bound over.
