Rapper and TV host Jub Jub has filed a lawsuit against DSTV channel Moja Love for allegedly refusing to pay him for his popular cheating show Uyajola 9/9.
Sunday World reports that the broadcaster is penalizing the Ndikhokhele hitmaker for reportedly disrespecting his female business partner, Keabetswe Mokoena.
Mokoena and Jub Jub are business partners at the non-profit Raah Foundation, which was contracted by the government to organize the Moses Kotane Arts Festival, scheduled to take place at the Moruleng Stadium in North West on 3 and 4 December 2022.
The host of Uyajola 9/9 canceled the concert, citing “brand damage” as the reason.
Mokoena accused him of verbal abuse, harassment, emotional stress, and “substantial harm to her professional reputation and business” prior to his statement. The Citizen noted at the time that she additionally accused the musician of attempting to profit from the community initiative.
Additionally, Andile Ncube cautions Jub Jub against “illegal” practices.
However, in reaction, the television personality denounced the allegations as “false.” Additionally, he asserted that Mokoena was the one who exploited young artists, misappropriated cash, and extorted stakeholders.
According to the article, Moja Love CEO Aubrey Tau stated that Jub Jub had broken the channel’s policy against gender-based violence.
“The CEO is an advocate against gender-based violence and abhors the mistreatment of women and children. “He believed Jub Jub should be severely punished because it would serve as a deterrent to others who might consider violating company policy,” stated the channel’s management.
The executive, who wished to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation, stated that Tau was considering revoking the presenter’s contract.
LETTER OF DEMAND
However, the rapper from Ngi Thembe Wena is not taking the claimed punishment lying down. The rapper’s attorneys, Baloyi-Ntsako Attorneys, demanded payment of his January wage in a letter to the channel.
In the letter, his attorneys stated that his contract with Moja Love, which he signed in March of 2022, does not expire until March of 2023.
“Quite shockingly and to his detriment, he informs us that he has not yet received his monthly salary for January 2023, and attempts to inquire have been met with aggressive non-committal responses from both yourself as the CEO and the broadcaster legal adviser, one Advocate Nandi Ndaba,” the letter states in part.
In addition, Jub Jub’s attorneys argued that withholding his compensation was unlawful and a violation of his job contract. In addition, they said that the station operated like a “spaza shop.”
In conclusion, the attorneys threatened legal action against the broadcaster.
“A business of this nature, such as the broadcaster Moja Love, cannot be handled like a spaza shop; it is unprofessional, unethical, and disgusting. “It is our considered opinion that the treatment you are subjecting our client to, including non-payment of his salary, is unfair, unlawful, unethical, and inhumane,” the letter states.
