A 9-month-old boy was shot and killed while sitting in a stroller being pushed by his mother on a sidewalk in central California, according to police.
The mother and her boyfriend were walking on a street in Merced on Wednesday when a car drove by and one of its occupants opened fire, striking the child, according to a statement from the Merced Police Department.

The department stated that police officers responded to reports of a shooting and found the mother and child in a McDonald’s a block away from where the child was shot.
The infant was declared deceased at the spot. Officials later recognized him as Darius King Grigsby.
The police stated that officers were searching for witnesses and video footage in the neighborhood.
Approximately 80 miles east of San Jose is Merced.
The police have not identified a suspect or a motive in connection with the incident.
