Outspoken Elon Musk has doubled down on his new work-from-home ultimatum, sending out a second email to Tesla employees on Tuesday to clarify the policy, in which he stated that “remote work is no longer acceptble [sic].”
‘Everyone at Tesla is required to spend a minimum of 40 hours in the office per week,’ Musk, 50, wrote in a follow-up email to employees, which was leaked and reported by Teslarati mere hours after the first.
The message was sent to an email group named ‘Everyone’ at 10:51 p.m., according to Twitter user @SamNissim, with the subject line ‘To be extra clear.’
Musk seems to take a jab at some Silicon Valley businesses for their remote rules in it, reasserting his commitment to words made in the previous message.
‘The office must be where your actual colleagues are located, not some remote pseudo office,’ it reads, reiterating assertions from the prior email, which stated staff would only be allowed to work from home if they worked 40 hours a week in-office.
Musk then declared: ‘If you don’t show up, we will assume you have resigned.’
The office’must be a main Tesla office, not a remote branch office unrelated to the job tasks, such as being responsible for Fremont manufacturing human relations but having your office in another state,’ Musk continued in the email.
Musk sniped on Twitter in response to a follower’s question about whether he had anything to say to ‘those who think coming into work is an obsolete concept,’ saying, ‘They should pretend to work somewhere else.’
