My husband’s wedding backflip attempt caused a severe brain injury

A woman disclosed that her spouse sustained a traumatic brain injury during their wedding reception.

Two weeks after their elopement, Kelsey Mynatt and her husband Mike were scheduled to host their wedding reception.

Mike had to relearn everything such as walking, talking, and eating after being brought to the hospital and having to relearn how to walk and communicate.

The couple eloped in September 2022, but held a reception in October to celebrate with friends and family.

The dance floor was packed when the evening took a turn for the worst.

Kelsey said in a now-viral TikTok video, “Mike attempted his party trick, which is a backflip on the dance floor that he typically completes.”

However, he slid on the floor because beverages had been spilled and he was wearing dress shoes without traction.

After Mike’s fall, according to Kelsey, he suffered a head injury and chaos erupted.

As Mike’s brain rapidly swelled, he was transported to the hospital and immediately underwent an emergency craniectomy.

Mike remained in a coma for a month in Denver, Colorado, while the majority of the couple’s family and friends live in Missouri.

Mike remained in the intensive care unit for an extended amount of time because he needed to relearn how to walk, talk, stand, and eat.

Kelsey added, “He is progressing well, and we are very proud of him.”

A GoFundMe has been established to support the family by paying Mike’s medical fees and allowing people to visit him in the hospital while he recovers from his traumatic brain injury.
