Maps Maponyane, a media figure, is back on Mzansi television as the presenter of a new program produced by Mzansi Magic that honors idols.
On “Mzansi Icons,” a variety of industry icons will speak with Maponyane on the lessons they learned from their successful careers in front of the camera.
Kwaito legend and entrepreneur Kabelo Mabalane, sports executive Jessica Motaung, artist and businessman Khuli Chana, and marketing guru Zibusiso Mkhwanazi are among the guests.
While absent, Maponyane has been traveling to keep himself occupied. He traveled to Iceland earlier this year “in quest of water undisturbed by man.”
Along with Terry Pheto, he executive produced the Akin Omotoso-directed movie “Courting Anathi.” He has also been working behind the scenes.
In “Mzansi Giants,” very well-known people and industry icons have frank conversations about what makes them tick and what it took to be where they are today.
Stories of triumph, beating the odds, victory, conquering hardship, battling success, and the rewards that come with it may be expected from viewers.
According to Shirley Adonisi, director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net, “South Africans adore their media stars, and the chance to get to know them – in their own words – is one we know fans will appreciate.”
She adds, “With a presenter who has shown his relatability and is flexible enough to delve deeply into themes as effortlessly as he can keep things light, people will have a new program to add to their list of Mzansi Magic favorites.
On Tuesday, October 18, at 8 p.m., “Mzansi Icons” will make its TV debut on Mzansi Magic (DStv Channel 161).
