The Nets have placed Ben Simmons on a strengthening program for his sore left knee and have ruled him out for their game on Sunday against Atlanta, with the 26-year-old indicating that he could miss several more games.
Simmons missed his 17th game of the season on Friday and will be re-evaluated in about a week to determine his progress towards hitting certain targets for recovery.
The Nets have three upcoming games, including one against the rival Knicks.
Simmons had undergone a platelet-rich plasma injection and had fluid drained from his left knee before the All-Star break, but the pain recurred after a few practices.
He missed last season with a herniated L-4 disk in his back and has been averaging career-low numbers this season.
The Nets, who have Simmons under contract for the next two seasons at a significant salary, have placed him in a strengthening phase to prevent further injuries and hope that he will be able to return to the team soon.
