Newborn baby girl is found alive in a pile of rubbish

In Indonesia, a newborn baby girl was found alive in a pile of rubbish after being abandoned.

A resident discovered the baby as she was returning from the rice fields and reported the discovery to local authorities.

Officials arrived to find the baby girl wrapped in a rubbish bag covered in blood and bits of the placenta.

The police believe the baby was under 12 hours old when she was found and was likely abandoned shortly after birth.

The baby was taken to the Nabasa Maternity Hospital for treatment and monitoring and will be placed in state care.

While female infanticide is less common in Indonesia than in other Asian countries, the country still struggles with reducing rates of infant mortality caused by other factors.

UNICEF has reported that Indonesia has made efforts to improve birth registration, which allows children to access social services and live better lives.

However, the OECD has noted that girls and women in Indonesia are more likely to experience poverty and face disadvantages in education and employment.

The abandoned newborn is lucky to have been found alive, and an investigation is ongoing to find those responsible for dumping her in the rubbish.
