Police have confirmed the discovery of a body in the River Wyre in Lancashire, less than a mile from where 45-year-old Nicola Bulley disappeared on January 27.
The body has not been formally identified, but Ms Bulley’s family has been informed of the development. Home Secretary Suella Braverman expressed her sympathies, describing the news as “heart-breaking and distressing”.
Braverman had previously criticized the police investigation for disclosing Ms Bulley’s personal information. Underwater search expert Peter Faulding, who previously conducted an extensive search of the River Wyre using sonar equipment, also expressed his condolences.
Dozens of officers, divers, search experts, and high-tech equipment, including drones, were involved in the three-week search.
Ms Bulley’s partner, Paul Ansell, has maintained hope that she is still alive.
