NIIA Launches Sports Diplomacy Project

The Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) has named former international footballer, Olusegun Odegbami, as head of its Sports Diplomacy Desk, whose role is to explore sports as a diplomatic tool to foster the country’s international relationships in accordance with the nation’s foreign policy agenda.

“Desk intends to open up fresh frontiers and opportunities for Nigerian sports across economic, cultural, and diplomatic sectors with African countries and others that have become home to people of African descent,” NIIA Director General, Prof.

Efosa Osaghae, said in a statement.

Osaghae said the Sports Diplomacy Desk has identified a conversation series as one of the vehicles for the project.

He revealed that the first conversation to launch the Sports Diplomacy Project will hold at the NIIA’s main hall in Lagos on Thursday.
