Following the suspicious death of his wife, who was allegedly killed with a blunt object and discovered lying in a pool of blood inside a garage, detectives have detained a man.
A 51-year-old woman’s body was found by her daughter at a residence on Brickworks Lane in Northcote at around 8 o’clock on Wednesday. Her daughter then called the police.
52-year-old guy who is the woman’s husband has been arrested and is being questioned by police.
As police searched the family’s inner-city Melbourne home, he was observed crying.
It is believed that the lady was covered in blood and had severe head injuries. Blood splatter was also seen on the garage walls.
Police claim that a blunt object was used to fatally assault the woman.
Her husband was alerted by his young daughter who discovered her mother’s body and called emergency services.
As detectives looked into the circumstances of her death on Thursday, the street remained closed.
The two-story home of the family has been thoroughly searched by police.
It is assumed that the woman’s family resided in the second apartment in the shared building.
The Herald Sun quoted a neighbor who spoke under the guise of anonymity as saying she was shocked to learn about the death because the street is typically quiet.
When she arrived at her house, she noticed a lot of police tape as well as an open garage door and a bright light.
The street is usually very calm, so this is unexpected.
Police have asked anyone with information to come forward but have not provided a description of anyone they wish to speak to in relation to the death.
