On Monday, there were some noteworthy events during the Yankees’ spring training.
DJ LeMahieu, the team’s infielder, got two singles during the game, and while he was thrown out on a close play when he tried to stretch the first single into a double, the second single helped drive in two runs.
Unfortunately, Aaron Hicks, the outfielder, made a blunder early in the game when he dropped a fly ball to left field.
This mistake was reminiscent of his struggles towards the end of last season. However, unlike last year, Hicks bounced right back and hit a single and a double in his first two at-bats.
Another standout player was Willie Calhoun, the non-roster outfielder who is hoping to secure the left-field job.
Calhoun went 2-for-3 with two singles, bringing his impressive stats to a .571 batting average (8-for-14) and a 1.482 OPS over six games.
Looking ahead, the Yankees have an off day on Tuesday, their first since spring training began.
