A man was transported to the hospital after sustaining significant injuries in a big explosion at a municipal working site on the southwestern suburbs of Sydney.
On Wednesday about 11:20 a.m., emergency workers went to the Camden Council depot in Millwood Avenue, Narellan.
Multiple NSW ambulance and fire units were sent, along with a Toll Rescue Helicopter carrying a critical care physician and paramedic, which arrived within 10 minutes.
A 41-year-old contractor at the site was treated by paramedics at the scene for severe burns to his back, chest, abdomen, arms, and face.
He needed intubation and was taken to the burns unit of the Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical but stable condition.
According to a spokesperson for Fire and Rescue NSW, the explosion was apparently caused by a worker using an angle grinder.
The explosion shook adjacent firms in the industrial district.
D.C. & O Services & Products’ Brian Cruikshank heard a “huge explosion.”
He said to NCA NewsWire, “I felt the shockwaves throughout the workshop.”
People had emerged from their warehouses and were gathered about, attempting to determine what had occurred.
According to the paramedics, the situation might have been lot worse.
Inspector Andrew Cullen said that paramedics arrived at a tough scenario.
The man suffered from severe partial thickness burns to his body, arms, and face.
Through intubation, the critical care team stabilized him, and he was then airlifted to the burns unit at Royal North Shore Hospital.
This situation might have been far worse, since explosions are always deadly.
The NSW Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the explosion.
Additionally, SafeWork NSW will examine the event.
A spokesperson for Camden Council said, “The situation is presently under investigation, and the council is cooperating authorities with their inquiries.”
Therefore, it would be improper for the council to speak more at this time.
