ORANGE AND SYRUP CAKE RECIPE

Recipe by Melissa Jacobs

Course: Dessert

Cuisine: Global

Difficulty: Easy

Prep time: 20 minutes

Cooking time: 30 minutes

Total time: 50 minutes

INGREDIENTS – CAKE

  • 3 eggs

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 1⁄2 cups flour

  • 1 1⁄2 cups baking flour

  • 3 tbsp. butter

  • 3⁄4 cup milk

  • For the syrup
  • 1 cup water

  • 1 1⁄2 cups sugar

  • 1 tbsp butter

  • 1 cup fresh orange juice

METHOD

  • To begin, preheat your oven to 170°C. This will ensure that your dish is baked to perfection.
  • Next, cream together the butter and eggs until they are well combined. This will form the base of your mixture.
  • Add the dry ingredients to the mixture and mix well. This will help to thicken the mixture and give it a consistent texture.
  • In a separate bowl, melt the milk and butter together. Once melted, add this to the mixture and stir until everything is evenly distributed.
  • Grease a pastry dish with butter or oil to prevent sticking, and pour the mixture into the dish. Spread it out evenly.
  • Finally, bake the dish in the preheated oven for 30 minutes at 170°C. Keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t overcook or burn. Once it’s ready, remove it from the oven and let it cool before serving.
  • To make the syrup, simply combine the ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil. This will help to infuse the flavors and create a smooth consistency.
  • Once the syrup is ready, pour it over the hot cake. This will allow the cake to soak up the syrup and become even more flavorful and moist. To finish off your cake, dust it with a layer of icing sugar. This will add a touch of sweetness and create a beautiful presentation.
  • When the cake is fully dusted, it’s time to cut it into blocks and serve. For an extra touch of indulgence, serve with a dollop of fresh cream. This will help to balance out the sweetness of the cake and create a creamy, luxurious texture.
