In a heated tweet sent on Tuesday, the boxing star took aim at UFC president Dana White in relation to a recent video that showed White striking his wife, Anne, when the couple was on a New Year’s getaway in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
In reference to White’s new reality competition series featuring the finest open hand strikers in the world, De La Hoya stated, “My good buddy @danawhite is so selfish he chose to take fighter money from his new league on TBS ‘Power Slap’ by earning fighter of the night against his WIFE.” “Those aerobics teachers in Boston are tough dudes.”
White has not yet officially responded to De La Hoya’s remark. The UFC president told TMZ on Monday that “a lot of booze” was involved in the domestic altercation, and that both he and his wife have since apologized to one another and are now concentrating on their family.
There was undoubtedly a lot of booze, but White insisted that this was not an excuse. “I’m literally not offering any defenses for this. Never before has it occurred. People will say what they will since it is the first time it has ever occurred.

“What is is what is. Furthermore, all that is said is justified. I deserve it. It took place. My wife and I have apologized to one other and to our children for what happened, but I have no idea why it occurred. I’m sure everyone will have something to say about this. I couldn’t give a damn what others thought. We prioritize looking after our family and our children more than anything else.
In a second statement to TMZ, White’s wife, Anne, who is also seen punching her husband in the video, said that the pair had consumed too much alcohol the night of the incident.
I’ve been married to Dana for about 30 years, Anne stated. It would be an understatement to say that this is out of character for him; nothing like has ever occurred. Unfortunately, on New Year’s Eve we were both drinking too much and things went out of hand on both sides. As a family, we have discussed this and offered our condolences to one another. For the sake of our children, I only hope that others would respect our privacy.
White’s new program almost lost because of the event. Jori Arancio, a network representative, told The Post that TBS had serious conversations about ending the fight promotion. The program will now debut on January 18, a week after its original debut on January 11, according to Arancio.
Following White’s August statement that there is “no chance” they can be friends again due to irreparable “damage” to their friendship, De La Hoya poked fun at White on Twitter.
When questioned about De La Hoya’s offer of reconciliation in April, White said, “I feel that De La Hoya’s apology was real, but there’s no way that he and I can ever be friends again.” We were genuinely close buddies. I once attended his battles. I used to follow his battles. I once advertised his bouts.
“That person caused much too much harm for us to ever be close again. I’m grateful for his apologies. I got it. Although we’re cool, we’ll never be that cool.
De La Hoya said in April that his criticism of the UFC was unwarranted and that he “would want to fix things up with Dana and [Floyd] Mayweather.”
The conflict between White and De La Hoya started when White co-promoted the Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather bout in 2017. De La Hoya complained that the fight was “disrespecting the sport of boxing” at the time, and White reportedly rehashed De La Hoya’s drug and alcohol use history in response.
Then De La Hoya teased White on Twitter and repeatedly challenged him to a fight. Over the years, White has had his fair share of De La Hoya roasts in the media.
