A medical student from Swansea named James Dudley, 30, incurred a £1,400 hospital bill after breaking his nose on a waterslide at Aqualand Costa Adeje in Tenerife.
James had already gone down the Twister slide twice that morning, but on his third attempt, he gained too much speed and hit his face on some stone steps.
Although James’s insurers covered his medical expenses, he is seeking compensation from the waterpark.
Description of the Accident
James and his fiancée flew from Bristol to Tenerife for a romantic getaway.
They went straight to the Twister, a four-lane slide, on April 22.
James went up and down twice, but on his third time, he felt himself going faster than before.
He skidded to the end of the landing area and hit his face on the slide’s steps.
James broke his nose and badly bruised his torso but thankfully escaped without any broken ribs.
Hospital Treatment and Insurance Coverage
James was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.
The hospital bill came to £1,413.57, which his insurance covered.
However, the accident ruined the end of their holiday.
James is expecting compensation from Aqualand, and he is willing to take legal action if necessary.
James’s Call for Compensation and Potential Legal Action
Aqualand has only offered a ticket refund, which James feels is insufficient to compensate for what happened.
He wants Aqualand to take responsibility for the accident and pay compensation.
James said that he is inclined to take legal action if necessary.
Aqualand and its owners, Aspro Parks, have not yet commented on the matter.
Conclusion
This incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers of waterslides and the importance of following safety guidelines.
While accidents can happen, it’s crucial for waterparks and other organizations to take responsibility for their actions and provide appropriate compensation when necessary.
