Peter Andre, the Mysterious Girl hitmaker, has revealed that he had a nervous breakdown during the height of his pop career.
At 25 years old, he sought psychiatric help as partying and casual sex spiralled out of control.
Peter spent six years in psychiatric units and on medication, admitting that he lost himself but never touched any drugs.
He also claimed that his shirtless posing and arrogance contributed to his decline, driven by insecurity and the need for external validation.
Insecurity and Self-Doubt Led to Demise
Peter admitted that his need to prove himself and gain acceptance led him to become someone he didn’t like.
He explained that he went off on a tangent when he was just going with girls and not caring.
The singer recognized that his shirtless posing and arrogance were just a self-defence mechanism against the years when he wasn’t accepted.
Long-Term Effects of Mental Health Struggle
Although Peter’s breakdown took place several years ago, he still experiences brain fog and panic attacks today, caused by past poor mental health.
He also developed agoraphobia and vertigo, which prevent him from going out.
Despite his struggles, he claims to be a different person today, more modest and calm.
Peter’s Rise to Fame
Peter became known to fans in 1989 when he was a contestant on an Australian talent show, New Faces, at the age of 16.
He signed a recording contract soon after, and his popularity grew when he recorded his debut single Drive Me Crazy and his breakthrough single, Gimme Little Sign.
He rose to fame again after appearing as a contestant on ITV’s I’m A Celeb, where he met his ex-wife Katie Price in 2004.
