On Monday night, five armed thugs robbed the parents of Former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich in their rural home and made away with cash and mobile phones.
Detectives attached to Uasin Gishu County Directorate of Criminal Investigations trailed the robbers and after they were arrested, it was established that the pistol that they used to carry out the robbery belongs to a rogue businessman identified as Okila, who is a former close associate of the former Treasury CS.
During the 2017 Jubilee Party campaigns, Okila is said to have been close to Rotich and was one of the suppliers of the public address systems.
Okila is believed to be among the thugs who robbed Rotich’s parents on Monday night.
“He is not a licenced firearm holder and is illegally in possession of the firearm.
“It will be subjected to ballistic examination to establish if it had been used in committing other robberies within the area and its environs,” a senior detective revealed.
In 2020, a robbery was committed at Rotich’s residence at Elgon View estate in Eldoret where the thugs stole a safe.
Some suspects were arrested and later two of them were charged in court in Eldoret.
Upon interrogation, the accused persons revealed that they had been directed by Okila, who was well conversant with the home.
“Since then, detectives have been looking for him but he disappeared,” a police source said.
Okila is in police custody in connection with the Monday night robbery at Rotich’s parents’ home.
