Earlier this morning near Sodo, Seattle Police responded to a report of a woman being held at gunpoint and robbed of her vehicle by a woman and a man, who avoided police until being arrested.
The victim, a 44-year-old female, said that as she was locking her vehicle in the 5700 block of Martin Luther King Junior Way, a lady approached her with a revolver and demanded that she hand over her keys. Police responded at the scene at around 06:30 a.m. and spoke with the victim. The victim dropped her possessions, which the 32-year-old female suspect scooped up. She then sat in the driver’s seat and fled in the victim’s vehicle with the 35-year-old male suspect.
The stolen vehicle was recovered near the intersection of Martin Luther King Junior Way South and South Ryan Way by officers conducting a search. The police sought to apprehend the vehicle and its occupants, but they were unsuccessful. While establishing visual contact with the stolen car, officers noticed a handgun being thrown out of a vehicle window and striking a vehicle belonging to a community member. Police quickly regained sight of the stolen car when it was abandoned near 1st Avenue South and S Hinds Street after colliding with a cement item.
It appeared that both suspects fled the stolen vehicle on foot. A K9 unit from the SPD responded and conducted a track for the suspects, which led officers to a nearby building. A 911 call reported that the carjacking suspects were possibly involved in a break-in. SPD K9 discovered evidence of the burglary and clothing that matched suspect descriptions. The police surrounded the building with confinement and later located the suspects hiding behind a shed.
The defendants were captured and placed into custody for robbery and burglary. In addition to the robbery and burglary, the female suspect was also apprehended for illegal possession of a firearm and outstanding warrants. Later, both individuals were booked into the King County Jail.
Police submitted a traffic collision report for the vehicle that had been struck by the suspects and seized two handguns, one of which had been thrown out the window and the other of which was found inside the stolen vehicle.
