Lancashire Police divers have returned to the river Wyre where Nicola Bulley’s body was found to determine the cause of her death.
Ex-Met detective Peter Bleksley has noted that this move is rare, and the police only get one chance to get it right.
Nicola disappeared on January 27 in St Michael’s on Wyre before her body was found 23 days later.
Questions Raised About the Investigation
Bleksley questions the professionalism of the initial searches and the messaging from Lancashire Police.
He claimed that the police may be back in the area to avoid the embarrassment of an angler finding something that they were unable to locate.
Forensic pathologist Dr Richard Shepherd suggested that police could be looking for a missing object, but former detective superintendent Julie MacKay dismissed the speculation.
MacKay suggested that the police could be gathering information on the river and its height and flow.
Inquest into Death to Take Place
An inquest into Nicola’s death is scheduled for June 26, and Senior Coroner for Lancashire Dr James Adeley requested that the police divers continue searching the area where her body was found to ensure that as complete a picture as possible of the facts concerning her death is presented at the inquest.
This will assist the family in understanding what occurred.
Commentary
The decision to send police divers back to the scene where Nicola Bulley’s body was found is raising questions about the initial investigation and the effectiveness of the search.
The move is considered rare, and it suggests that the police may have missed something important during their first search.
While some speculate that the police may be searching for a missing object, others suggest that the police may be gathering information on the river and its height and flow.
The inquest scheduled for June 26 may shed more light on the circumstances surrounding Nicola’s death.
