Pastor Adeboye’s Call for Peace Amidst Challenges
In the midst of the ongoing 2023 convention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor E.A. Adeboye, the General Overseer, addressed the prevailing wars and challenges afflicting Nigeria.
Speaking at the Redemption City of God in Mowe, Ogun State, Pastor Adeboye emphasized the pressing need for prayer in order to attain lasting peace within the nation.
Seeking Peace: Adeboye’s Personal Perspective on War
Drawing from his own experience, Pastor Adeboye expressed a fervent desire for peace.
He shared a glimpse of his encounter with war, noting that if faced with a choice between war and peace, he would unequivocally choose peace.
Despite not being in the military, he recounted being present on a battlefield and thus understanding the grim reality of armed conflict.
Nation’s Struggles: Challenges Confronting Nigeria
Pastor Adeboye highlighted Nigeria’s ongoing struggles, encompassing issues such as the herders’ crisis, banditry, kidnapping, and the battle against hunger.
He acknowledged the urgency of addressing these challenges to safeguard the nation’s future.
He stated, “Surely we do not want more wars, we want to win the ones we are fighting, and we do not want fresh ones.
So those of you who believe in peace in every section… Stand and cry to God.”
Clarifying ECOWAS’ Stand on War
Meanwhile, Adamu Garba, a prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC), offered insights into the declaration of war by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
He emphasized that a formal declaration of war necessitates approval from key entities, including the National Assembly, the National Security Council, and the Council of State.
He stressed that the President must also address the nation, justifying the need for war.
Ambiguity and Diplomacy: Evaluating ECOWAS’ Stance
Garba scrutinized ECOWAS’ stance on war against Niger Republic, noting that activating the military as a standby force does not directly indicate the initiation of war.
He cautioned against hasty conclusions, urging a measured approach to interpreting the situation.
Garba expressed skepticism over media speculation and highlighted the importance of awaiting further developments.
He contended that ECOWAS’ statement, while ambiguous, should not be hastily interpreted as a declaration of war.
This episode underscores the complexities surrounding the discussion of war and peace, especially within the context of regional bodies like ECOWAS.
It exemplifies the careful consideration and nuanced interpretation required when dissecting geopolitical matters of utmost significance.
