Sunday, Priscilla Presley shed tears while reading a poignant poem written by one of her granddaughters in tribute to Lisa Marie Presley.
The “Old Soul” poem that Priscilla presented at her daughter’s memorial service at Graceland was written by Riley, 33, or the 14-year-old twins Harper and Finley.
The words began, “In 1968, she entered our world / Born exhausted, fragile, yet strong / She was fragile but full of life.”
The poem continued, “She always knew she wouldn’t be here too long / Childhood passes with a glimpse of her green eye / She then raised her own family.”
“Then came her second child, leaving her with suspicion / Could this be the angel who takes me home?”
The poem concluded with a reference to the deceased singer’s “survivor’s guilt,” describing her “broken heart… as the cause of her death” on January 12 at the age of 54.
“Now that she is where she has always belonged, my heart misses her love,” it concluded. “She knew I loved her / I’m afraid I’ll never touch her / But the old soul is always with me / She doesn’t float above.”
Lisa Marie, who died of a cardiac arrest, had Harper and Finley with her fourth ex-husband, Michael Lockwood, and Riley with her first ex-husband, Danny Keough.
Ben Smith-Petersen, the spouse of her oldest child, helped Riley deliver a tribute during the funeral by reading a letter she had written.
Riley’s statement indicated that she and Smith-Petersen welcomed a baby daughter in secret following their 2015 wedding.
“I hope I can love my daughter as much as you loved me, and as much as you loved my brother and sisters,” the “Daisy Jones & The Six” singer’s note said in part.
In addition to other celebrities, Austin Butler, Sarah Ferguson, and Alanis Morissette attended Lisa Marie’s funeral.
Later that day, she was interred alongside Benjamin in the Meditation Garden on the Tennessee mansion of her late father, Elvis Presley.
