Priti Patel QUITS as Home Secretary saying she will return to the backbenches just hours before she faced being FIRED by new PM Liz Truss
Priti Patel resigned tonight, only hours after Liz Truss was chosen the next leader of the Conservative Party.
Ms. Patel was generally anticipated to be replaced by Attorney General Suella Braverman tomorrow, when Ms. Truss becomes prime minister and reshuffles the cabinet.
But she made a pre-emptive strike tonight, announcing she would return to the backbenches when her successor is unveiled.
In a letter to Boris Johnson, she stated that it had been a “privilege and an honor” to serve, but that she would not seek re-election.
She has been criticized for the magnitude of the Channel refugee crisis and the Rwanda deportation program, which has not yet deported a single migrant to Africa.
