PRP debunks report on National Convention

The People’s Redemption Party, PRP, has debunked media reports making rounds on its national convention to be held on February 19, 2022, in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

In an interview with Voice of Nigeria, the Media Assistant to the Party’s National Chairman, Comrade Mohammad Ishaq, said the news on the convention was a mere fabrication and should be disregarded.

Comrade Ishaq further called on the public to ignore the news, stressing that those behind it were fraudulent scammers.

“Those behind this are just scammers who are not recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

We, the People’s Redemption Party members, do not know them; we also saw the news on social media,” he said.

According to him, the Party’s National working committee is yet to meet and decide on a date for the convention.

“The PRP national convention might be in March or April 2022, as the Party’s working committee will have to meet and deliberate on a date,” he added.

He commended INEC for the just concluded FCT election saying that the Electoral Umpire is doing well in elections in Nigeria.

Comrade Ishaq stated that, despite INEC’s commitment to the country’s free, fair and credible election, certain areas need to be adjusted and improved upon.

He stressed that the electoral body needs to tackle vote-buying, as it affects the quality of elections in Nigeria.

However, the Media Assistant of the People’s Redemption Party added that the Party is optimistic that the INEC will improve its efforts ahead of other elections coming up in the country, most especially the 2023 general elections.

Also, in a press statement issued and signed by the Acting General, National Publicity Secretary Kabiru Gwangwazo confirmed that a group called the purported National Convention in Abuja on Saturday 19th, February 2022 is fake and meant to deceive the unwary.

“We are by this notice alerting all members of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and the public that the national elections and political parties regulator, INEC and all relevant agencies of State, the Police and others have been officially informed and will surely deal decisively with those involved with this illegality.

“It is only with formal recognition of a political party and its registered leadership as certified by INEC and the Law that permits any claimant to canvass membership, to operate bank accounts, to solicit subscriptions or sell party cards and sell candidate nomination forms for elections at all levels.

And indeed more for election into party offices.

Those alleged to be planning the illegal convention of the February 19 don’t have any of these essential prerequisites to support their claim,” he said.

According to him, the PRP has always been the hope of the teeming underprivileged Nigerian people since its registration was reclaimed.

A National Delegates Conference (NDC) was held in September 2018.

Malam Falalu Bello, OFR, was elected under the Party’s National Leader and BOT Chairman, the Late Alhaji Abdulkadir Balarabe Musa; the Party has been working on establishing solid structures across the states.

Meanwhile, he added that all consultations are ongoing with many groups interested in working with the PRP to rescue Nigeria and Nigerians and lead them to the Promised Land.

The plan for a properly constituted National Convention will be unveiled in a few weeks.
