House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has pledged to subpoena 51 former intelligence officials who helped The Washington Post’s Hunter Biden expose Russian disinformation in the wake of “Twitter Files” disclosures about how the social media giant blocked the reporting.
The California Republican, who is poised to become speaker when the GOP wins control of the House in January, described Twitter’s handling of The Washington Post’s explosive October 2020 report as “outrageous.”
McCarthy stated on Fox News’ “One Nation” on Saturday that many of the 51 intelligence agents who signed a letter stating that the Hunter Biden material was false and that there was Russia involvement have security clearances.
They will be brought before a committee. I will hold a hearing, bring them in, and subpoena them to appear before a committee. Why did they sign the document? He said, “Why did they lie to the American public?”
The international business dealings of Hunter Biden will be the subject of many House Republican investigations in the next year.
John Brennan, a former director of the CIA, and James Clapper, a former director of the National Security Council, were among a number of former intelligence officials who signed a statement days after the publication alleging that it “bears all the hallmarks of a Russian information campaign.”
The Republican leader of the House, Rep. Kevin McCarthy, has stated that he will subpoena former intelligence officials who discounted The Post’s story on Hunter Biden.
McCarthy was skeptical about the action. He asked on Fox, “Why did you use the reputation that America was able to give you for political purposes and to deceive the American public?”
As a result of The Post’s reporting on Hunter Biden’s international business ties during his father’s tenure as vice president in the Obama administration, Republicans are ready to launch multiple probes into the Biden family.
One of these deals included a Chinese corporation, according to Rep. James Comer, the new chair of the House Oversight Committee and a member of the Republican Party.
The owner of Twitter, Elon Musk, has been releasing stories regarding the company’s internal deliberations on The Post’s Hunter Biden story and how it restricts conservative individuals.
“China is attempting to purchase a stake in our American industry, which poses a threat to our national security – and Joe Biden led the negotiations.” This is a problem, and it is for this reason that we are concerned that the White House is compromised,” Comer of Kentucky told The Post earlier this month.
Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, has begun disclosing business documents showing the internal decision-making behind withholding The Post’s story, restricting conservative characters, and banning former President Donald Trump following the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.
The first chapter of the “Twitter Files,” published on December 2 by Matt Taibbi, revealed that a group of top executives chose to designate The Post’s piece as “hacked material” without informing then-CEO Jack Dorsey.
According to Taibbi, Twitter “made exceptional measures to conceal” the Hunter Biden laptop story by deleting user-shared links to the exposé and displaying warnings that it may be “unsafe.”
McCarthy stated in the interview that a Republican-led House would also scrutinize Facebook and Google because “they have become an arm of the Democratic Party.”
