According to reports, some remaining Twitter employees have begun bringing their own toilet paper to the office as Elon Musk implements drastic cost-cutting measures at the company.
Musk’s efforts to save money included the firing of janitors from the company’s San Francisco headquarters this month. The reductions occurred after the janitors went on strike for higher pay.
The lack of janitors has “thrown the office into chaos,” with bathrooms that have “become filthy” and lingering odors of “leftover takeout food and body odor,” according to the New York Times, citing persons with knowledge of the situation.
According to the article, some employees carry their own toilet paper because there are no janitors available to replenish supply. Supposedly, Musk has crammed Twitter personnel onto two floors while shuttering four others.
Musk made the decision to shut down one of Twitter’s data centers in Sacramento, California, despite rumored fears among some staff that it would negatively impact the site’s performance.
Musk wrote on Christmas Eve that Twitter continued to function “even after I disconnected one of the more crucial server racks.” On Thursday, the website experienced a broad outage, the exact cause of which is unknown.
According to the source, Twitter has fallen behind on rent payments for its San Francisco offices and has ceased paying rent at its Seattle facility, where it now risks eviction. Additionally, the corporation laid off cleaners and some security personnel at one of its New York buildings.
In addition, the company founded by Musk has allegedly ignored or delayed payments to a number of vendors, including the accounting firm KPMG and the perks provider Carrot. According to reports, Twitter’s new leadership intends to renegotiate some agreements in order to reduce costs.
The New York Times reports that Musk has alienated some Twitter employees with his “erratic and hands-on” management style. The CEO of Twitter has instructed his subordinates to identify personnel responsible for leaking company operational information to the media.
According to the publication, Musk is seeking to cut $500 million off Twitter’s budget for non-labor expenses.
Since he purchased Twitter for $44 billion in late October, the billionaire has been candid about the company’s financial troubles. Musk stated earlier this month that his numerous budget changes were necessary to avert a $3 billion deficit.
Musk claimed during a Twitter Spaces event last week, “That’s why I’ve spent the last five weeks slashing prices like a madman.” This company is comparable to a plane hurtling into the ground at tremendous speed with its engines on fire and its controls inoperable.
Twitter has been contacted by The Post for comment. The corporation has eliminated the whole communications department.
