Routes leading to the Chapman’s Peak closed due to fire

Due to a blazing fire on the mountain, the routes leading to the Chapman’s Peak path were closed on Thursday evening.
Table Mountain National Park’s NCC Environmental Services and other emergency services are now reacting to the incident, according to a message on Twitter from SANParks.

SANParks – Table Mountain National Park’s NCC Environmental Services Newlands crews are responding to a fire along Chapman’s Peak.

“Additional Fire fighting resources from NCC Environmental Services and Volunteer Wildfire Services are en route to assist in bringing the blaze under control,” it said.

SANParks furthermore said two helicopters have also been dispatched to assist in fire suppression efforts.

It is not yet clear what the extent of the blaze is or the possible cause.
“We have just been informed the road is closed to all users only open to emergency vehicles. Use alternative route.”
