Russel Brand challenges practice of condemning Fox News

During an appearance on HBO’s Real Time, comedian and podcast host Russell Brand criticized MSNBC’s bias, arguing that it is no less of a propaganda mouthpiece than Fox News. He challenged the practice of condemning Fox News without acknowledging other networks’ biases and urged the liberal network to focus on self-improvement instead of attacking others.

Brand suggested that instead of bickering over which network is worse, efforts should be directed towards improving MSNBC to make it a better and more effective platform, echoing former President Trump’s oft-repeated slogan, ‘Make America Great Again’.

Brand pointed out that both Fox News and MSNBC display biases and act as mouthpieces for their affiliate owners, Black Rock and Vanguard. He emphasized the importance of taking responsibility for one’s own perspective and suggested that Heilemann, the MSNBC journalist he was speaking with, should be more open about the biases held by MSNBC instead of solely attacking the conservative outlet.

Brand referred to his own experience on MSNBC’s Morning Joe show, where he described the atmosphere as a propagandist nut-cracker,’ and criticized the network for failing to stick up for genuine American heroes like Edward Snowden and Julian Assange.

Heilemann attempted to rebut some of Brand’s accusations, stating that it was a false equivalency and that Brand didn’t actually know anything about the organizations he was talking about. Brand attempted to provide evidence to support his argument and criticized MSNBC’s coverage of alternative COVID-19 treatments as an example of the network’s failure to report the facts.

He also criticized MSNBC host Rachel Maddow for allegedly telling her audience that if they took the COVID-19 vaccine, they wouldn’t get it. Heilemann dismissed Brand’s examples as conservative talking points.

The brand continued to argue for new political systems that genuinely represent ordinary Americans and overcome cultural differences. However, he did not elaborate on why he believed such incidents were comparable to Fox hosts repeatedly airing conspiracy theories about President Joe Biden’s 2020 election win over former President Donald Trump.

Fox News founder Rupert Murdoch has admitted in a deposition that some of the station’s top shows ‘endorsed’ baseless allegations, which now form the basis of a $1.6 billion defamation suit that Dominion Voting Systems has brought against the conservative channel.
